Discovering the perfect software to keep your business on the safe side can be a bit of a minefield. That’s why we’ve got something exciting for you – a short interview with Scott Pearson, the Health & Safety Manager at Huntapac, a new customer just a few weeks into implementing Safety PAL for his organisation, who was happy to share his journey insights and experiences.
Read on for Scott’s journey from stumbling across Safety PAL to making it a critical part of everyday life at Huntapac. It might hit home as familiar to your search for a solid health and safety solution…
Q1: Can you share your journey with “Safety PAL” from when you first heard about it to your current usage?
Scott: I first encountered Safety PAL at the OHSG meeting. Karl’s demo left me intrigued, especially after wrestling with proposals for two other systems—Citation and Notify. Citation didn’t do everything I needed from an H&S system, but it was the best I had found, and Notify would have helped fill the gaps that Citation didn’t do, but this was a separate system.
While each had its merits, Safety PAL clearly stood out by claiming to be the one-stop solution I needed, and although Safety PAL costs a little more, the system provides many more benefits, support and compliance so the slight difference in price was negligible compared to the comprehensive features on offer.
Q2: What were your thoughts on the Safety PAL demo? What stood out to you? Did you notice anything missing?
Scott: I arranged a demo for myself, our Technical Director, and the HE Manager. Safety PAL’s versatility and the seamless integration of various features impressed us. The ability to address our specific needs without compromising on functionality was a key differentiator. It felt like a unified solution where others left gaps.
Q3: What was the process like when implementing “Safety PAL” into your organisation?
Scott: We’re in the midst of implementing Safety PAL at Huntapac, and it’s been approximately four weeks. Currently, we’re working on a farm – which is a challenging setting for health and safety software introduction! Despite the intricacies, I’ve been involved in incorporating Safety PAL, undertaking tasks such as adding personnel, integrating training videos, and mapping out sites. To ensure a smooth transition, my plan involves a soft launch to gradually acclimate everyone.
A recent incident further highlighted the platform’s practicality. When a tractor collided with an electricity pylon on the farm, Safety PAL allowed us to promptly create a safety briefing. This information was swiftly disseminated, ensuring that others were well-informed on the appropriate actions to take in similar situations.
I’m on my own in the Health & Safety department, and Safety PAL has been a huge help and time-saver. Its capability to send remote training and videos has proven to be a time-saving benefit, notably cutting down on the need for extensive travel and costly fuel between sites.
Q4: In your opinion, what are the main benefits that “Safety PAL” has brought to your organisation?
Scott: The e-learning component of Safety PAL has been a game-changer for us. It’s incredibly easy to set up and straightforward, which has streamlined our training processes. This simplicity is a real plus. Moreover, the procurement (PPE) side has proven to be highly useful. Now, our team members can conveniently order their personal protective equipment directly through Safety PAL, offering a more efficient and integrated solution.
I’ve also found the capability to generate reports on PPE usage for assessment and accountability purposes to be immensely valuable. It provides a comprehensive overview that aids in strategic decision-making. The multilingual support in Safety PAL is another standout feature. The ability to translate information instantly is particularly useful, and I foresee it becoming even more beneficial in later stages of our implementation.
One aspect I’ve noted for improvement is the mobile experience. The home screen on mobile requires extensive scrolling, which can be a bit cumbersome. It opens up similarly to the desktop version, but navigating through it could be more user-friendly. I’m more than willing to collaborate and work together to enhance the mobile interface, ensuring a smoother and more accessible user experience.
Q5: How would you describe the support service provided alongside the software?
Scott: Karl’s support has been exceptional. His knowledge and responsiveness make problem-solving a breeze. Having that lifeline is crucial, and I know I can pick up the phone and call Safety PAL and be able to talk about issues and hear Karl’s thoughts.
Q6: Reflecting on the entire process, how do you feel about the implementation and ongoing use of “Safety PAL”?
Scott: I’d rate the process an 8/10. While everything thus far has been great, the missing two points are reserved until the entire implementation is complete. Currently, I’m in the midst of job creation and linking individuals to tasks.
Q7: Can you summarise your overall sentiment towards “Safety PAL” and whether or not you would recommend it to others?
Scott: Absolutely, I would recommend Safety PAL. The reporting features alone are a game-changer, offering insights into carbon footprint and efficient PPE ordering. It’s like having an extra person dedicated to health and safety without the associated costs. Both I and the technical director were impressed with Safety PAL’s ability to deliver results efficiently.
We thank Scott Pearson for sharing his insights into Huntapac’s experience with Safety PAL, highlighting the transformative power of cutting-edge health and safety software.
By adopting Safety PAL, Huntapac has not only streamlined safety procedures but has also experienced notable improvements in overall communication, compliance, and risk reduction. Juggling the responsibilities of a Health & Safety Manager across various sites, Scott told us that he now feels more confident in his role, particularly appreciating the time-saving aspects and the enhanced protection of employees. Plus other managers and directors have been impressed with Safety PAL equating it to having an extra pair of hands in the business.
While Huntapac is still in the process of fully implementing Safety PAL, it’s impressive to note the significant benefits observed in just a few weeks. We look forward to witnessing the continued positive impact Safety PAL will bring to Huntapac once fully integrated into their operations.
