In today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, Directors and Business Owners don’t want the added burden of constantly worrying about health and safety, compliance gaps, or whether their employees have all the necessary information and training. They need a comprehensive solution that takes care of these concerns, allowing them to focus on core business operations and driving profitability. Safety PAL offers precisely that, simplifying safety management processes and empowering businesses to create a safer work environment.

One of Safety PAL’s latest satisfied customers is Transdek, a company specialising in designing, manufacturing, and installing innovative loading bay equipment. With the company’s expansion and the growing number of employees, they realised they needed a more streamlined and centralised approach to health and safety management. Before adopting Safety PAL, Transdek relied on spreadsheets and emails, leading to inefficiencies and potential risks. However, with Safety PAL’s user-friendly approach and comprehensive features, they found a solution that simplified safety management and improved overall workplace safety and efficiency.

We recently sat down with Dean Butler, the Operations Director at Transdek, and asked him to share his experience with Safety PAL and the difference it has made to their business.

Q1: How long have you been using SafetyPAL, and how did you hear about it?

Dean Butler: We’ve been using Safety PAL for approximately 6 months. We heard about it through a recommendation from our HR manager, who had previous experience with the software in a different role. She believed Safety PAL could be beneficial for our safety management needs, having witnessed its success at a company where she used it previously.

Q2: What prompted you to start using Safety PAL, and how has it benefited Transdek’s safety management?

Dean Butler: As our company grew, it became evident that traditional methods like spreadsheets and emails were no longer sufficient to manage safety efficiently. With an expanding workforce (from 20 employees 2 years ago to over 50 today) we needed a centralised system that allowed everyone to communicate faster and eliminated the risk of important documents being scattered across different people’s desktops.

We had looked at other safety systems, none seemed to match the ease and simplicity of Safety PAL. While consultants had introduced various parts of other systems, none of them were joined-up. Safety PAL stood out for its ability to quickly engage with staff and streamline the safety management process.

Safety PAL allows us to quickly communicate safety updates, send reminders, and conduct assessments, all in one place. Since implementing it, we have noticed a significant improvement in safety management and overall communication among our staff.

Q3: What specific improvements have you experienced with Safety PAL in terms of safety compliance and risk reduction?

Dean Butler: Safety PAL has been instrumental in improving our safety compliance and risk reduction efforts. We can now easily upload and track documents for inspections, monitor asset machinery, and update employee safety passports seamlessly. This ensures that essential inspections are not missed, and our workforce is well-qualified to perform their tasks safely.

Safety PAL has standardised our safety processes, eliminating the inconsistencies we had in the past – before each team had their own way of working, and now everyone follows the same process. Now if any team member spots a problem, they can very quickly get a safety update out, with a photo, and send it to the relevant person to have it sorted out.

It’s quick, and easy, and smooth for everyone to follow. We feel like we’ve only just scratched the surface of what it can do – maybe using 40% so far, but even that has been revolutionary for us.

Q4: How has Safety PAL made your job as the Operations Director easier or more efficient?

Dean Butler: As the Operations Director, I need to ensure that safety information reaches the right people promptly. Safety PAL has provided an easy and consistent way of issuing new certificates directly to the relevant staff members.

Before, with our email and spreadsheet-based approach, I could have sent a document to someone whilst they were on holiday. Did they read it? Sign it? Now, I can track whether the certificates have been accepted or not, and if any issues arise, I can address them immediately.

This level of control and visibility has improved communication and efficiency across the company.

Q5: Is there anything you’d like to see improved or added to Safety PAL to further enhance your experience?

Dean Butler: Overall, I find Safety PAL to be an excellent tool, but there are a few minor improvements I’d like to see. For instance, the ability to delete or correct safety bulletins with spelling mistakes or postings sent to the wrong department would be beneficial. As an administrator, having more flexibility in this regard would be helpful.

Quick Editorial – this is actually a core function of Safety PAL – once something is submitted or published, you can’t change it later. This provides iron-clad proof of exactly what has happened and when for your audit-trail. However, we’ve taken Dean’s valuable feedback onboard, and are looking at ways to confirm details of a posting before it is submitted.

Q6: How has the team at Safety PAL, assisted you in using the software effectively?

Dean Butler: Karl has been a great support throughout the process –  is Mr Safety PAL! He helped us set up the system and even conducted spot audits to ensure we were making the most of Safety PAL’s capabilities. His engagement with our shop floor staff was particularly valuable, and his extensive knowledge inspired trust in both him and the software. We’ll definitely seek his assistance when we have new machinery coming in.

Dean Butler’s insights into Transdek’s experience with Safety PAL provide a compelling example of how innovative health and safety software can transform your safety management processes.

By adopting Safety PAL, Transdek has not only streamlined safety procedures but also witnessed improvements in overall communication, compliance, and risk reduction. As a busy Operations Director, Dean told us that he now feels more comfortable in his role, knowing that safety is efficiently managed and employees are better protected.

Safety PAL’s success story at Transdek serves as a testament to the software’s impact on workplace safety, making it a valuable choice for businesses seeking to prioritise safety and compliance.
